A TPLO Cruciate Surgery

Navigating cruciate surgery

Understanding the complexities of cruciate surgery options can be overwhelming for pet owners. At Drovers Vet Hospital, we aim to alleviate your concerns by offering clear guidance and expertise in selecting the best surgical approach for your pet's needs.

Advanced care for Cruciate Disease and joint stability

TPLO surgery is recommended for pets diagnosed with cruciate disease or rupture. This advanced procedure is designed to restore joint stability and alleviate discomfort caused by ligament damage.

Precision and comfort

TPLO surgery involves a focused technique where a curved cut is made at the top of the tibia (shin)bone, which is then rotated to achieve a more level joint surface. This adjustment reduces the Tibial Plateau Angle, effectively minimising shear force on the knee joint and supporting the injured cruciate ligament.

What to expect during the procedure?

Post-surgery, patients are closely monitored and receive continuous intravenous analgesia (pain relief) to ensure their comfort. Most pets undergo the procedure in the morning and are discharged the following afternoon or evening, with thorough instructions provided for post-operative care.

At Drovers Vet Hospital, our experienced veterinarians, including Dr. Wayne Shipham and Dr. Luke Frichot, specialise in orthopaedic surgery and can provide detailed consultations to discuss your pet's condition, outline surgical options, and recommend the most suitable approach for optimal recovery.

We prioritize transparency and compassion in our approach, ensuring you have the information and support needed to make informed decisions about your pet's health. If you have questions or wish to schedule a consultation regarding TPLO surgery, please contact us at Drovers Vet Hospital.
