Breeding bitches and possible caesareans

It is always a very exciting time for the family involved when it comes to breeding their female dogs and then having wonderful cute little puppies, if everything goes well. However, we have seen plenty of pregnant dogs have problems giving birth due to a wide variation of reasons. They would eventually need a caesarean section. These almost always present as emergencies as puppies can be distressed if they are not delivered as soon as possible.

What a lot of people do not plan for is the cost of an emergency caesarean-section surgery. It ranges from $1800 for a small dog to up to $2500 for a larger breed dog. Thus our advice to people planning to breed their dogs, is to always set aside some funds for emergencies. Nothing is more stressful than trying to get funds together when your dear dog is having trouble birthing.
